This page describes my experience constructing soft foil kites for traction (buggying) activities using a truly excellent piece of software called FoilMaker, (download a copy for free from the FoilMaker homepage. FoilMaker has a very useful manual, this page simply adds a few of my experiences (tips) and pictures (click on any picture for a larger version 50-100Kbyte).
You can load the design for my kites directly into foilmaker by downloading this .kte file. Foilmaker has a really useful feature that produces a VRML model of the design so you can view the kite before building... If you have a VRML viewer on your machine then you can view the animated version of the kite. There are several VRML viewers around. I use Cosmo Player - old now but free to download from the Cosmo Player site
So far I have built 3 kites, a rectangular experimental 2m (ie 2 square meters in area) prototype, a 2m eliptic useful for traction in a Force 5-6 and a 8m light breeze giant (both the latter to the design illustrated here).
